Massage Therapy Modalities
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue focuses on the deeper layers of the muscle tissue. The ultimate goal is to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. Deep tissue focuses on specific areas and is not used as a full body treatment. Since the treatments are more localized, there may be some soreness during and after each session.
Trigger Point Massage
Trigger Point Therapy is an intense localized treatment that focuses on "trigger points" (painful irritated areas deep in a muscle that are known to cause referral pain in other areas of the body). This type of treatment will help to alleviate muscle spasms and pain. Trigger Point Therapy often goes hand in hand with Deep Tissue Massage.
Reflexology
Reflexology massage is based around a system of points in the hands and feet thought to correspond, or "reflex," to all areas of the body. Massaging in a gentle circular stroke will help break up crystal-like deposits around the reflex points. This action helps to promote optimal organ function, relaxation of the body and a state of well-being. Reflexology has often been explained by the phrase, “Bring the feet to life and the body will follow.”
Prenatal Massage
Massage during pregnancy has many benefits such as increase general circulation which supports the placenta by increasing nutrition to the tissues and enhancing waste product removal. Relief of muscle pain in the lower back, abdomen and shoulders.
Swedish massage
Swedish massage uses soothing tapping and kneading strokes to work the entire body, relieving muscle tension and loosening sore joints.
Swedish Massage Therapists use 5 basic strokes to increase feeling of well-being, reduce levels of anxiety, increase awareness of mind-body connection, enhance self-image, and increase circulation.
