Physician Directory

The Pennock Hospital Physician Directory consists of physicians who routinely refer patients to Pennock Hospital for care. They include members of the active, courtesy, adjunct and affiliate medical staff.

Active staff members provide continuum care to their patients, have admitting privileges, serve on committees, hold office and vote at medical staff meetings.

Courtesy staff members may be primary care or a specialist offering consultation to the active staff on the care of their patients, but rarely admit patients to Pennock Hospital.

Adjunct staff, a branch of the courtesy staff, consists of physicians who offer specialty care to patients in an outpatient setting at Pennock, as well as consultative services to the medical staff.

Affiliate staff members are also part of the courtesy staff. They provide care in adjacent communities and have elected not to routinely admit patients. They serve as a patient’s primary care physician, follow their care on an outpatient basis in their office, but refer them to the inpatient medical service when admission to Pennock Hospital is required.

The Inpatient Medical Service consists of several physicians on the active staff who have agreed to care for the patients of affiliate primary care physicians during hospitalization, to ensure continuity of care and allow the affiliate primary care physician more time to see patients in their office. Upon discharge, the Inpatient Medical Service refers the patient back to the care of the affiliate primary care physician.

What is board certification?

Board certification indicates that a physician has met the stringent standards of a board of examiners in his or her own chosen specialty field. It requires a medical degree, completion of an approved residency program of three to seven years depending on the specialty, practice experience and passing an oral and/or written examination. When a physician is board eligible, it means that he/she has completed all of the necessary steps to be board certified except for taking the oral and written examination.

Members of the Medical Staff of Pennock Hospital represent numerous specialties and subspecialties. Their credentials provide patients an extra measure of confidence in their choice of a physician.
